My Photo Gear

Whats in my camera bag

Updated:  February 16, 2021

I often get requests asking me what gear I personally use. So I’ve compiled a list of items in my photo gear “bag”. This is my personal collection of camera equipment that I use on a weekly basis. It’s not a complete list, since many accessories are not shown in the photo above. But this camera equipment is what I carry with me most of the time.

To make things easier I’ve laid out my Nikon gear and labeled them so you can see the description for each one below. I have also linked each item to Amazon with an affiliate link and as a full disclosure, as you know the price is the same whether you use my affiliate link or not, but if you do then I get a small commission which helps keep this site running and I thank you for that!

A: Nikon D750 – FX/Full frame body. I absolutely love this camera, it’s worth every penny I paid for it. One of the best investments I ever made for my photography business. It’s basically the D810 but in a lighter body and in some ways even better!

B. Nikon D7100 – DX body. One of the best deals right now in a DX body. If you want to take your photography to the next level, this DSLR is packed with high end features often found only on FX bodies.

C. Nikon D7000 – DX body. The one that started it all, these were so popular that they are still being sold today new and can be purchased for only a few hundred dollars. Simply the best bang for your buck. Honestly, I would get this one before I would get the current entry level Nikon D5300. The Nikon D7000 series bodies are mid level camera bodies with lots of features found in higher end models.

D. GoPro HERO6 Black – A must have for any serious sports photographer or anyone that needs to capture action shots while actually doing it himself/herself.

E. Nikon 80-200mm f2.8D ED – The workhorse. Nikon has been making this lens new for more than 16 years. It’s fast, built like a tank and works great on both the Nikon D750 and D7000/D7100 plus it won’t cost as much as the 70-200 2.8D ED lens. I purchased this lens new in the year 2000 and I still use it on a weekly basis, love it!

F. Nikon 24-70 2.8G ED – The best all around lens you could ever purchase. This lens is a must have if you’re a wedding photographer, it’s high quality, built to last. You’ll love the bokeh it creates and it’s one of my top 2 zoom lenses of all time.

G. Nikon 50mm 1.8D – It’s inexpensive and a must have for all photographers. You can never go wrong with a basic 50mm lens.

H. Nikon 9×25 binoculars – I always have a pair of binoculars in my camera bag, especially when I take sports or wildlife/nature photos.

I. Sekonic L-308s Light Meter (Black) – If you’re serious about metering light the right way, then this light meter is a must have. Perfect for small studio setups.

J. Nikon SB-910 AF Speedlight Flash – I have the SB-800 and have used it for more than 10 years, these speedlights are made to last. The latest version is the SB910 and works perfectly.

K. MeFoto Aluminum Travel Tripod – I love this tripod, it’s small, light and tough. I recently got back from a trip to Europe and I was easily able to take it on the plane and carry it around with no problem. Perfect for traveling. Should give me years and years of good use. Well worth the investment.

L. Nikon MB-D16 Multi Battery Power Pack/Grip for D750 – Love this grip, no need to mess with 3rd party problems when you purchase the real one from Nikon. The grip holds and extra battery or AA batteries. And it also helps you take easier vertical shots without a problem and still gives you full control of the camera. Love it!

M. Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip and Peak Design PRO Pad Stabilizer I use this along with my Black Rapid strap. I’ll have one body with a small lens clipped to my waist with the Peak Design CapturePro and the second camera with bigger lens on the Black Rapid strap. Works perfectly.

N. Black Rapid RS-7 Camera Strap – Honestly it’s the best strap to own. I didn’t believe the hype for years until I purchased one myself. Wow, I can have a camera on my all day and it won’t wear my down like when I use a conventional strap. Now all my Nikon straps are in a box put away, I don’t even touch them.

O. Air Blower – Always have one around. Get a name brand or a generic one, it doesn’t really matter, just have one around.

P. Set of ND filters – For any type of long exposure or for shooting sunsets at the beach, be sure to have a set of ND filters. And don’t forget to get the holder as well.

Q. SanDisk Extreme PRO 32GB SDHC Flash Memory Card – It’s a 95MB/s speed rated card so it’s pretty fast and most of the cards I own are of this type. I didn’t picture all of them, only a few.

Finally, most of my camera equipment fits in the Case Logic SLRC-206, which I did a review of and should be helpful if you’re in the market for a new camera bag.

Hope all this was helpful!
