Muslin backdrops are great for studios and even outdoor shoots. I was having a discussion earlier today with a friend regarding outdoor shoots and using a muslin backdrop. I was telling him how I would sometimes hang a muslin backdrop in the backyard and using existing light and my on camera flash to do test shots with people. I shot this photo some time back, the setup was very simple. I hung the backdrop from a pole that was suspended from two nearby trees. A couple of clips from the .99cent store and some bricks at the base to keep the wind from moving it and presto! It was a very bright day but it was setup in the shade, so the natural bright light exposed the model very well. Since I was testing, I would use the on camera flash occasionally. Oh yeah, can you believe I took this with a 4mp camera? An Olympus to be exact! So you see, it does not take an expensive digital SLR to practice your hobby of photography.
