If you haven’t heard yet, later this month, around the 15th of September, Nikon is rumored to announce a new camera called the Nikon D7000. It will replace the current and very popular D90 camera.

Wondering about price? Well nikonrumors.com mentioned a price point at about $1200 for the body only. Here are some basic specs for the camera, again only a rumor according to nikonrumors.com:

- Magnesium-alloy body
- 16MP sensor
- 1080 HD video
- 6-8 fps
- ISO range: 100-25600
- 39 AF points

For you Nikon users, is are you excited or looking forward to this new camera? Will you trade up or replace your current camera for it when it becomes available? As for when it will be available for actual delivery to consumers, I suspect 3-4 weeks after its announced at the earliest.

Have you seen the new Nikon Coolpix S1100pj

Last night, Nikon announced one of their new point & shoot cameras, the Coolpix S1100pj. This 14.1 megapixel camera seems to look like many other P&S Nikons except for one thing, it’s also a projector! A neat feature, I personally would never have thought of, but I’m sure its great for showing pictures and video at a family gathering or in an impromptu situation. This model replaces the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj, which is very similar to this newer model, from the link you can see how the price of the Nikon S1000pj has dropped.

You can find the Nikon press release here.

Amazon is already taking pre-orders, I’m assuming the camera should start to ship in a few weeks. Price is $349.95. You can get the Green version of Nikon Coolpix S1100pj 14 MP Digital Camera or choose from other colors here Nikon Coolpix S1100pj.

I normally don’t talk so much about a regular point & shoot camera, but if the projector feature turns out to be powerful enough to do what is show in the promo video below, I suspect other makers will start to add this to their line of cameras.

New Nikon cameras rumored to be announced in September

on the benchFor several months I’ve been waiting for Nikon to announce and release their new DSLR cameras. This year I must admit, Canon is ahead of the game and it almost seems strange that Nikon hasn’t released a new replacement for the D700, with more MP’s and HD video comparable to Canon. Not that I was in the market for a new Nikon D700s or whatever they plan on calling it, but I always expect Nikon and Canon to match each other.

The only rumored announced by Nikon next month is the D90 and D3000 replacements, which may be named the Nikon D95 and D3100 respectively, according to NikonRumors.com. I’ve noticed that the price of the D90 has gone back up to its regular price in the mid $850 and has not dropped to its low earlier in the year of $745. This tells me they were trying to liquidate their supply and the few that are left are being listed now at regular price. With Nikon, this normally happens a few months before they are about to release a new camera model.

But who knows, we may have to wait longer. For those waiting for a Nikon D700s to be announced or released, you may need to hold on a little longer. In the meantime, look at this pretty woman to calm your excitement! ;-)

Deal of the week – new Nikon D40 digital camera

new nikon d40

Nikon D40

I received my Summer 2010 B&H Camera catalog in the mail today. A whopping 640 pages, yikes! I like B&H and have purchased a few things from them, but I wonder how long they will continue to print this large catalog, I’m sure its very expensive to produce. Maybe they can discontinue the catalog and have people look at the items on their website…oh wait they are already do. Go figure!

Since I was in the “camera equipment” search mode after looking at the catalog, on the internet I was surprised to find a new Nikon D40 was still available for sale at Best Buy for only $399 (body only). The D40 was discontinued by Nikon earlier this year, although they were very popular. I’ve never used a D40, but I’ve heard from several people that it was a nice little DSLR, good for family and casual shooting. A fellow photographer friend and his fiancee use it often and love it. But Adorama has a refurbished D40 with a lens for the same amount.

Thought I would share what I found just in case some of you were looking to get a deal on an entry level DSLR. Again, I’ve never used one so I can’t recommend the camera itself, but as for the price, for a new camera, the Best Buy sale seams like a good deal, but you will need a lens. The item and price was available as of the date of this posting, not sure how long it will last. And if you don’t mind a refurbished one, then the Adorama one is the way to go. I know Ken Rockwell talks highly about the Nikon D40, but then again, he has likes a lot of strange stuff! :-)

If you own a Nikon D40, what do you think? Leave a comment and share with the rest of us.

Great rebate for the Nikon D90 with 18-105mm

Tall model in blue lace

Nikon Rebates makes Danae happy as well!

An early Sunday morning update to the blog. First, I want to wish everyone a fun and happy Easter Sunday. Second, I want to share one of the lowest prices I’ve seen on a Nikon D90 kit. Amazon.com has the Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens for only $1020. And if you’re like me and keep track of camera & lens prices you know that is the lowest price so far for that kit. Nikon’s current rebates are pushing the prices to this low point. This time last year, the kit was well over $1,700, the camera alone was selling for $1400-$1600 without the lens! The Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) has also dropped in price, now only $774!

The Nikon D300 and D700 have also dropped in price. The D700 being a full frame camera is especially a nice camera. I know many of the camera websites are pushing the Nikon D3000 or D5000, but be aware that these camera’s are limited to the type of compatible lenses. For example, the D3000 cannot except any lens without an internal focusing motor, while the D90 will accept both types. I, like most photographers, have several pro lens that like to use with every new camera body we purchase. After all the investment is in the lenses, not the cameras.

The Nikon rebates even make Danae happy! ;-)
