Beach
These past several days in Southern California have been extremely hot, over 100 degrees in most places. I’ve been spending most of my time at the beach or in a movie theater. Last night we decided to see the new Leonardo Dicaprio movie Inception, which by the way I recommend, but you must pay attention very carefully because it can be a little confusing.
Anyways, haven’t been doing much photography this month, mostly spending time with family and friends. Although a few days ago I decided to go on a bike ride at the beach and took along my little handy Canon G10. Whenever I take a break from a ride or see something interesting I snap a few pictures. Like this one or this one!

If that man only knew that his dreams were coming true!
I’ve always said, photographing people in public places is the best, especially with a sexy model! While taking pictures of a friend wearing a very cute schoolgirl outfit, another friend who went along with us, took this picture of her as she was posing for me. I was on the far right, away from the frame and not included in the picture. I had the model posing in that area because of the background, which you cannot see from this angle, so I didn’t mind that she was standing next to this man sleeping at the park.
For at least 20 minutes or so we used that area and not once did the man wake up and see what was happening behind him. He would move and adjust his position but kept sleeping like a log. From this angle, you can clearly see how close she was to the man. I must admit, I was more concerned that we would disturb his sleep than anything else. I never like to intrude on the “space” of other people when taking pictures at public places. I’ve talked about that before here.
I wonder what the man was dreaming of, perhaps winning the lottery? Taking a cruise in the Caribbean? Or better yet, having a sexy college student in a short skirt come up to him at a public place and ask “mind if I take a picture?” Whatever it was, I’m sure if he is reading this now that he is kicking himself for not waking up or at least turning over!
On another note, you probably have notice the “ratings” area under the title of each post. I added this to get a better ideas of the pictures and information you find more useful/entertaining. If you could rate the posts you read I would very much appreciate it. This way I in regards to pictures, I will know which models to use for my posts. As for the information on the articles, it will also give me an idea for new tips and tricks to add in future posts. Thank you for your help!

Make sure your model wears the correct skirt!
Have you ever been photographing a person, either outdoors or indoors, and find out that she would look or photograph better in a different outfit? I have and most of the time its my fault for not informing the model or planning ahead to make sure they are wearing the correct type of wardrobe. It happened to me with Danae once.
Here is a screen shot of Danae during a photo shoot we did at a local beach. I had asked her to wear a skirt. I figured it would be a little windy and create peeks as the wind blew up the skirt. Well, the skirt was short and did could “flow” up at times, but the material it was made of was too heavy!
She was wearing a green flower print blouse and dark green skirt. While I was photographing her, I had a friend videotape the session. Click on the screen shot and you can see the short video clip of her trying to make the skirt rise with the wind with no luck. She twists side to side then finally lifts it herself.
We only shot at the beach for a few minutes, then decided to go indoors and continue the photo session.

A happy model will make your pictures shine!
Every photo shoot I do normally has a purpose. Sometimes its for a client, other times its for my inventory of stock pictures, whatever the reason I always try to find a person I think will fit the project. Even when I do a test shoot, I only offer it to people that have certain characteristics I see appeal to me. And one characteristic I always try to make sure they have is a positive attitude.
I’ve found that people that are positive tend to be happier, smile more and more easy to work with. I learned this the hard way early on in my photographic career. I recall photographing a model who was hounding me for weeks to shoot her. Finally when I did and she arrived at the studio, we clashed at the “hello”! She proceeded to tell me instantly that she only wears black and that she brought her own wardrobe because she would only model in the clothes she had. She went on to list several conditions, including the last one which was that I should not expect her to smile too much!
Needless to say, I cut the time of the shoot in half and never used the pictures for anything. It was the longest and worst hour and half of shooting I ever did. Nowadays I pass on anyone like that, life is too short and photography equipment and studio time is to expensive to waste on people like that.
This image included in this article includes a woman I would photograph any day of the week. She was nervous at first, but was happy, positive and energetic! She arrived ready to have fun and enjoy the experience. We even went over our time allotment and shot for an extra hour! So next time you photograph a model, be sure its a “happy” one and leave those negative people for someone else!
