Wow, Canon came out with a bang today by announcing several new compact and DSLR cameras! You can read the official press release here for the EOS Rebel T3i and T3. The compact camera press release is here. Oh yeah, they also announced two new telephoto lenses: EF 500mm F/4L IS II USM and EF 600mm F/4L IS II USM. And if that’s not enough for you, they are also working on a new EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM EXTENDER 1.4x Lens.
According to the press release, the new EOS Rebel T3i will retail for $799 (body only), and will be available for retailers in the beginning of March 2011. As for the EOS Rebel T3, it will only be sold in a kit with the new Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II zoom lens at an estimated retail price of $599, starting at the end of March 2011.
I’m sure all the online retailers are preparing for a huge swarm of pre-orders. Especially on the 18mp T3i/T3 and some of the new compact powershot cameras. If you read the announcement, some have full 1080 HD movie recording capabilities.
If you’re a Canon fan, like I am (for compact camera’s anyways), this morning was fun! Can’t wait for these to hit the streets so we can see some real performance tests.
Of course Amazon is one of the first to start the pre-orders:
Canon EOS Rebel T3i – kit
Canon EOS Rebel T3– kit
All new Canon Powershots announced today – Which includes the 300 HS with 12-megapixel CMOS sensor, full 1080p HD video, and a large 3.2-inch touch-panel LCD for only $249. If I was going to pre-order one, this would be the one. Seems like the best value of the Powershots.
